Northlink Ferries is the principal ferry company serving Aberdeen Port and crossings to Kirkwall, Lerwick and Stromness are all operated by Northlink.

From the Scottish mainland, Northlink Ferries provides ferry transport to the Orkney and Shetland islands.


Timetables change according to the seasons in which crossings are offered. For both destinations, the final check-in time is 30 minutes before departure.

Ferry voyages include three weekly crossings from Aberdeen to Kirkwall (6 hours) and once a day from Aberdeen to Lerwick (12 hours).

Northlink also provides a service from Scrabster to Stromness (1 hour, 30 minutes) three times a day. Scrabster's ferry port is the main gateway to Orkney, Shetland. Stromness Port is situated 16 miles from Orkney's capital, Kirkwall.

Northlink ferries offer excellent facilities including quality cuisine, cafés, en-suite cabins, a children's play area and on the longer routes, a cinema showing the latest movies. The ferries are designed according to the highest comfort and safety standards.

Northlink Ferries Company operates three vessels. Each of Northlink's ferries can carry 600 travellers, plus freights and vehicles. Most of the cabins have twin beds, although there are several cabins with additional drop-down beds, which are tailor-made for families.

Each of the vessels is comfortably designed for passenger transport, with relaxing lounges and comfortable cabins. Each ferry has a pub serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, self-service restaurants and shopping facilities. The vessel serving longer routes provides a movie theatre.
